Mature Women On Sex
In an older woman-younger man relationship, the woman is sometimes called a 'cougar,' in reference to the animal's predatory behavior. While some women embrace the term, most view it negatively or have mixed feelings about it.

Urinary tract infections are most common in older women for two reasons. First, women are generally more likely to get a UTI because of the physical structure of their urinary tract. The female anatomy includes a shorter urethra than men. This means bacteria only needs to travel a short distance to reach deeper into the urinary tract. It is also easier for bacteria from the rectum or from intercourse to travel to the vagina and urethra.
Although women can get UTIs at any age, they can affect older women differently. UTI symptoms can be different or more severe in older women. Sometimes older women can have a UTI and be asymptomatic.
Eighteen percent of older men and 3 percent of older women say they've taken medications or supplements to improve sexual function in the past two years. But only 17 percent of older adults said they have talked with their doctor or other health care provider about sexual health in the past two years. Most who had engaged in such discussions said they brought the topic up, suggesting the need for more proactive conversations by clinicians with their older patients.
But the biggest gender difference was the percentage of those who said they were extremely or very interested in sex. Half of men aged 65 to 80 said they had this level of interest, compared with just 12 percent of women in the same age range.
Among those 75 years or older who had ever married, 58% of women and 28% of men had experienced the death of a spouse in their lifetime, making this stage of life particularly difficult for older adults.
Among men and women 60 to 69 years old, 23% had married twice and less than 10% had married three times or more. Among those ages 70 or older, 22% of men and 19% of women had married twice while 8% of men and 6% of women had married three times or more.

"It's very common for women to have a lower sex drive, or libido, during menopause," says OB-GYN Karen Carlson, MD. "You can increase your sex drive with lifestyle changes, including date nights, sex aids and lubricants."
"We recommend that people who wish to avoid pregnancy continue to use contraception until the age of 55 or when they become menopausal," says OB-GYN Jean Amoura, MD. "While pregnancy is rare among women over age 45, these pregnancies often carry greater maternal and fetal risk."
Men and women of all ages can often struggle with knowing how to turn their partners on. Mismatched cycles of desire, natural variations in desire over time, different priorities and issues, stress, pain, and so much more can all be mood killers. Aging tends to exacerbate any existing problems of desire or sexual function as well. The net result is that many couples in otherwise happy, committed relationships have trouble maintaining an active sex life with their partner, even resulting in so-called sexless marriages in some cases. This can often lead to resentment and frustration, and cause people to cheat, among other serious consequences.
In all relationships, communication is the key to long-term happiness and success. For older women, communicating your needs and desires, and what you want is incredibly important for satisfying sex. This is especially true given that the physical and functional aspects of sex can change, and what was once pleasurable may need some adjustment. Likewise, communication from your partner and an open, judgment-free dialogue is the only way to ensure you address the physical changes in your body, changes in desire, performance, and so on, and still enjoy a satisfying sex life together.
Bremelanotide or PT-141 is a doctor-prescribed peptide available at Invigor Medical used to treat sexual dysfunction in men and women. Women can use PT-141 for a powerful boost of sex drive and arousal. Bremelanotide (PT-141) is the first medication to be FDA approved for premenopausal women with Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD); low sex drive.
The changes in sex drive that come with aging are mostly the result of decreases in the amounts of sex hormones that our bodies produce. In males, testosterone production decreases steadily as we age. In females, estrogen tends to decrease dramatically at menopause. These chemicals are, respectively, responsible for libido in men and women, and decreased levels of these hormones are correlated with a decreased sex drive.
Desire usually (but not always) wanes with age. In general, sex drive decreases gradually with age in both men and women, but women are two to three times more likely to be affected by a decline in sex drive as they age. Reduced sex drive becomes much more common in women starting in their late 40s and 50s. The effect of age also differs by individual: some women experience a big decrease in sexual desire beginning in their midlife years, others notice no change, and a few report increased interest in sex at midlife. Those women whose desire increases may feel liberated by their new freedom from contraception or by newly found privacy if their children have recently left home.
When decreased desire is a concern. For many women in the menopause transition, a gradual decline in sexual desire does not have an important impact on overall sexuality and quality of life. For others, diminished desire and the rareness of sexual thoughts is a source of distress, undercutting their satisfaction with life and changing their sense of sexuality and self. If you are troubled by a persistent or recurrent lack of desire, you are likely to have what has been described as "hypoactive sexual desire disorder," the most common sexual complaint among women.
Causes of decreased desire are complex. Scientific studies have consistently shown that about one third of US women report low sexual desire or interest, and that this low desire is troubling to about one in three of those women.1,2 The upshot is that about 10% of US women are troubled by having low sexual desire. While a troubling lack of desire can affect women of any age, it has been reported in studies at a higher rate (12%) among midlife women (ages 45 to 64) than among women 65 or older (7%) or women younger than 45 (9%).1
The women who responded to the UKCTOCS questionnaires answered questions regarding their levels of sexual activity and sexual function, as well questions regarding their reasons for not engaging or engaging less frequently in sexual acts.
At baseline, the researchers saw that 65.3% of the respondents had a romantic partner, while only 22.5% said they were sexually active. These trends decreased over time, with sexually active women reporting having sex less frequently and finding it more uncomfortable.
As for having a low libido, many women said that problems in their romantic relationships, the logistics of organizing sex, and the way in which aging affected their self-image and self-confidence usually caused this.
